Life worldwide has taken a multitude of hits from the pandemic and the resulting global economic malady. As we move into 2021, we would like to give a special thanks to all medical professionals, first responders, law enforcement personnel, essential workers, and all who have sacrificed their time, energy, and resources to help those in need during this tragic experience. We would also like to thank our staff, partners, and stakeholders for their continued support while maintaining and growing their enterprises throughout this challenging time. Further, we send our good wishes and prayers to all who have lost loved ones and are still battling the after-effects of COVID-19. As we look to 2021, there's a bit of brightness on the horizon with Pantone's 2021 Colors of the Year, PANTONE 17-5104 Ultimate Gray + PANTONE 13-0647 Illuminating.
Quote of the Day: "I found I could say things with color and shapes that I couldn't say any other way – things I had no words for." — Georgia O'Keeffe
Colors are a vital ingredient for disseminating an idea, communicating a message, to attract interest, or most often, to generate a reaction or response. Over the years, Pantone has selected colors based on fashion styles from the top fashion designers. According to their experts, Pantone's modus operandi for color choices following an election year is less dependent on fashion and more reflective of society at that time.
These influences can include the entertainment industry's direction, films on the production line, various art collections including rising new artists, fashion, a plethora of design elements, popular travel locations, emerging lifestyles, play styles, and the state of socio-economic conditions. Innovations can also bring influences to bear from new technological advancements, divergent materials, textures, and a wide variety of effects that impact color. There is also the relevancy of social media platforms, not to mention upcoming sporting events that capture global attention. As you can tell, Pantone can pull from many influences during the team's decision-making process for the year's color.
2021 Pantone Colors of the Year
For 2021, Pantone has chosen two independent colors. To that end, Pantone suggests that their choices represent "a marriage of color conveying a message of strength and hopefulness that is both enduring and uplifting." Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute, states, "The union for an enduring Ultimate Gray with the Vibrant Yellow illuminating expresses a message of positivity supported by fortitude. Practical and rock solid but at the same time warming and optimistic, this is a color combination that gives us resilience and hope. We need to feel encouraged and uplifted; this is essential to the human spirit."
Pantone states support of their color choices with the following statement: "Emboldening the spirit, the pairing of PANTONE 17-5104 Ultimate Gray + PANTONE 13-0647 Illuminating highlights our innate need to be seen, to be visible, to be recognized, to have our voices heard. A combination of color whose ties to insight, innovation and intuition, and respect for wisdom, experience, and intelligence inspires regeneration, pressing us forward toward new ways of thinking and concepts."
